Valentine’s Day is upon us! Eat Jackson has compiled some great ideas for dates and gifts in the Jackson area that will thrill your special someone. Dinners of all types, weekend brunches, chocolates, decadent desserts, wine, and gourmet gifts are sure to make you the Valentine’s Day hero!
#1 – Nandy’s Candy
Indulge your Valentine with sweets from Nandy’s Candy! Choose from indulgent candies like handmade truffles and meltaway chocolates, chocolate and caramel dipped apples, fudge, toffee and nut clusters. Or maybe flavored cotton candy? You can even fill one of their customizable Valentine hearts just for your honey! And don’t forget their chocolate covered strawberries are a romantic pairing with wine! Shop in store or online.
#2 – Everyday Gourmet
You can’t go wrong when shopping for your cooking diva at Everyday Gourmet. Marlana and her team make it their top priority to find just the right gift for every customer that walks through their doors with a level of service rarely seen these days in a retail environment. Gourmet food products, hand crafted pottery, specialty wine and cocktail glasses and plenty of specialty items for your kitchen make it easy to wow your sweetie. Why not set the stage to turn an average dinner at home into a date night with a new cookbook or a beautiful new set of stemware? Explore new dishes and wines together.
Everyday Gourmet Cooking Classes are always a great gift, too! Learn a variety of cooking techniques or a specific meal from start to finish.
#3 – Livingston Cellars
Livingston Cellars has a wide variety of spirits, craft cocktail mixers and wines for all preferences and budgets. How about choosing a red and white wine for your sweetheart? Mitchell suggests the “The Chocolate Shop,” a rich and smooth red wine with notes of black cherries and dark chocolate that looks like a regular glass of red wine but he says, “drinks like a dessert.” It’s definitely a chocolate lover’s kind of wine, perfect for Valentine’s Day.
Or does you Valentine like a little more sweetness in a wine? Centorri Moscato displays aromas of rose petals, ginger, and peaches as well as flavors of juicy stone fruits including ripe peaches and fresh apricots. A playful effervescence and a marked acidity allow the sweetness of the wine to remain balanced and not become overwhelming to the palate.
For the more “spirited” Valentine, try the new vodka from Absolut called Elyx. For every bottle the company sells, they’ll donate a week’s supply of clean water to someone in need around. Plus the story’s good on this vodka: the winter wheat used to make this vodka is all sourced from a single estate that’s been growing crops since the 1400s, and the vodka is distilled in a vintage 1921 copper column still – all details that make for good date night conversation.
#4 – Campbell’s Bakery
Grab some Valentine’s themed iced tea cakes for all your loved ones this Valentine’s Day! Pick these up for school parties, for the office and for your own special someone. Campbell’s Bakery also has chocolate covered strawberries, plenty of cakes, cupcakes, cookies, and treats – choose from their full menu here. You can even request a Valentine’s themed king cake this year! Call in your orders to the bakery in Fondren at 601-362-4682 or Madison at 769-300-2790. Place your orders early to beat the rush!
#5 – La Brioche Patisserie
Stop by La Brioche in Fondren for artisanal sweet treats like mini cakes, chocolates and pastries. True decadence exists here! For all you macaron lovers out there, they’ve packaged mini macarons as a Valentine’s Day gift this year, and we absolutely love this idea! These are also a great idea as Valentine’s happies for co-workers, teens and friends. Then of course, a La Brioche gift card is always well received for lattes and sweets whenever cravings strike!
#6 – Babalu Tapas & Tacos
On Valentine’s Day, what’s better than a flavorful Latin dinner filled with aphrodisiacs?! Along with regular service, Babalu in Fondren will be serving a special prix fixe Valentine’s Menu from February 9 thru February 14. Each menu item includes an ingredient that is a known aphrodisiac – check their Facebook for more details.
#7 – Table 100
Table 100 is a delightful dinner destination choice this Valentine’s Day. Chef Mike has planned a full three course dinner menu featuring a Gulf oyster chowder, surf and turf with your choice of a Black Angus filet or Gulf snapper with crawfish etouffee and jambalaya and a strawberry tiramisu trifle for dessert! This meal is sure to please, but if for some reason it’s not to your taste, the Table 100 regular dinner menu is also available – and don’t forget about their Sunday jazz brunch, too. Be sure to make your reservations now to get the dates and times you prefer – this one will book up quickly!
#8 – BRAVO! Italian Restaurant & Bar
Some nice wine and Italian favorites are the ticket for a romantic date night! BRAVO! has you covered with their beloved classics, plus dinner specials for the biggest date night of the year – no reservations required. Valentine’s menu specials include choices of oyster bisque, hand-cut ribeye and lobster with hollandaise, market fish with sweet chili glaze as well as neapolitan tiramisu and red velvet cheesecake for dessert! This special is available for Valentine’s weekend along with the regular menu.
For a different angle, take someone special out to BRAVO’s weekend brunch, served Valentine’s Day weekend on Saturday and Sunday, 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.
#9 Broad Street Baking Company
Broad Street delights with a wide variety of dessert and pastries that will score you big points with your sweetheart. Just for Valentine’s Day, they’re offering personal-sized chocolate-covered strawberry king cakes paired with a cute stuffed animal and an iced sugar cookie, too. It’s a perfect grab-and-go gift that will make a perfect gift for the fun-loving people closest to you this Valentine’s Day.
We are most intrigued by County Seat’s incredible Valentine’s Menu. Starting Friday February 10th through Valentine’s week, the theme menu “I Just Wanna Be Where You Are” features farm to table creations like Gulf fish with kumquats, a trio of Mississippi lamb, brisket and Brussels sprouts, a lobster pot pie, pastrami beef rib and alligator boudin and gumbo – all only available during this limited time menu. Make a reservation to try one or all with your sweetheart.
#11 Iron Horse Grill
Dining out on Valentine’s Day can get pricey. The prix-fixe menu at Iron Horse Grill gives you a delicious three course meal, while still being easy on your wallet. Gaze lovingly into your sweetheart’s eye over your choice of appetizer before moving on to an entree of seafood pasta, chicken saute, or twin filet medallions. Finish the meal off with Ms. Lisa’s Homemade Strawberry Cheesecake or a heart-shaped Brownie a la Mode. The Valentine’s Day prix-fixe menu at Iron Horse Grill is available from February 10 – February 14.
