Best Eats of 2014 Jackson Restaurant Week ONE

262

Welcome to Week TWO, the final week, of 2014 Jackson Restaurant Weeks here in the Jackson, Mississippi metro area. It’s been quite a ride so far, and our local Participating Restaurants and Charity Finalists need your support this week more than ever before! Plan now to eat out at a Participating Restaurant several times this week and don’t forget to vote for a local Charity Finalist to help them take home the $10,000 Charity Check when they receive the most votes!

So far in our Jackson Restaurant Weeks Dining Series, we’ve explored how to eat out repeatedly on a budget and the best ways to grab breakfast and a ballot. But the question we hear the most often is “What is the best thing YOU ate?” Here’s your answer, so far during 2014 Jackson Restaurant, we’ve eaten dozens of meals out in participating restaurants, but here are the best of the best SO FAR.

1. Aladdin Mediterranean Grill / Shrimp Plate

Aladdin-ShrimpPlate

This dish is music on a plate. Savory grilled shrimp perfectly prepared and served hot over magical basmati rice with fresh veggies alongside. Plus, it comes with a simple side salad and hummus + warm, fresh pita bread. I could eat my weight in their pita bread. And hummus.

2. Capitol Grill / The Bulldog Pizza

Capitol Grill’s Chef Lance knows his stuff. I can testify to that many times over, but when I heard he had added HOMEMADE pizzas to the menu, I had to visit, and Jackson Restaurant Weeks gave me the perfect excuse to grab a Suzy B and pizza with my hubbie for a #JRW2014 Date Night. We ordered The Bulldog Pizza, a hearty meat pizza topped with sausage, pepperoni and smoky bacon. Fresh basil made the flavors of this pizza pop. I loved the cheese to meat ratio, but, honestly, I could have eaten just an order of the yeasty homemade pizza dough.

Since it was date night, we had to have dessert. The Cinnamon Roll Bread Pudding was recommended. I’ll let the picture speak for itself. Seriously, go get this. Tonight.

3. LurnyD’s Grille / Sloppy Jaloppy Burger

LurnyDs-SloppyJalopy

This burger has the perfect name. A fresh beef patty smothered with sloppy joe, cheese and some amazing fried jalapeños. All served on a bun & with a large helping of fries. This bad boy is the perfect way to get your votin’ in & make sure you get full on a budget, burger, fries and a drink only $10.

4. Julep Restaurant & Bar / Rude Cosmo

Julep-RudeCosmo

Julep is a great after-work spot to meet friends, and I took advantage of Jackson Restaurant Week by grabbing a ‘Rude Cosmo’ with a huge group of my girlfriends for an impromptu voting party. A dazzling drink, ladies swoon at The Rude Cosmo, a traditional cosmo with added tequila, which kinda makes it a cross between a cosmopolitan and a margarita. What could be wrong with that?

5. Sombra Mexican Kitchen / Layered Bowl + Baja Brownie

Sombra Mexican Kitchen is the definition of fresh in my opinion. I love the full flavors and Mexican flare of this Ridgeland hotspot. During a business lunch last week, I opted for to use Sombra’s special Jackson Restaurant Week menu which meant I got a HUGE portion of chicken, cheese, beans, guacamole and olives in my layered bowl. PLUS, I got a Baja Brownie for dessert – my all-time favorite! This little duo more than filled me up, plus I had leftovers to take home for only $12. C’mon, you really can’t beat that!

6. Old Capitol Inn Sun Room / Old Capitol Burger

OldCapitolInn-Burger

With weather like this, who can resist outdoor dining? Not me! Convenient to downtown or easily accessible from I-55, the Old Capitol Inn’s Sun Room embodies the meaning of patio dining perfection. The patio cannot help but make you relax with its lush greenery, beautiful water fountain and secret-garden-esque brick wall and wooden bridge over the koi pond. Lunch is served daily with friendly yet impeccable service offering chef-driven, hearty, yet approachable lunch specials all served in casual comfort.

The entire Eat Jackson crew kicked-off Jackson Restaurant Week with a team lunch on the outdoor patio where everything from the daily Blue Plate to the Old Capitol Burger made for both delightful bites and stunning photos. The Sun Room at the Old Capitol Inn is a must try whether you’re a stressed business person or just need a good place to catch up with your girlfriends. Plus, you can cast a Jackson Restaurant Week ballot here. Tell them we sent you!
