Grab a Bakery Breakfast: An Eat Jackson Guide!

All you bleary-eyed hungry folks looking to grab a bite to accompany your morning brew – you’re in luck. In the Jackson metro area, there are so many tastebud-tempting bakery breakfast options that your friends at Eat Jackson recommend designating at least one day a week to treat yourselves.

Here are a just a few places to get started:

Broad Street Bakery and Café

BakeryBreakfast-BroadStreetYou could stop by this local favorite every morning and walk away with something different for weeks without ever having to get the same thing twice.

What we tried here:

  • Cappuccino Muffin – it’s lot of muffin and just the thing if you want something sweet, but not too sweet.
  • Almond Croissant – Broad Street makes a variety of tasty croissants. This one has almond paste baked in and is topped with toasted almonds. Mmm!
  • Spanikopita – Another croissant offering, this one is stuffed with spinach and feta for those who are in the mood for a savory breakfast.

Pillow Donuts

BakeryBreakfast-PillowDonutsSometimes you’ve just gotta have donuts, and Pillow is one of the metro Jackson area’s best shops to satisfy the craving.

What we tried here:

  • Maple-Glazed Donut – these were so warm and fresh, the glaze was still shiny. A helpful hint from a donut pro: If it’s still warm, your choice has been made. So good!
  • Apple Fritter – This writer has a weakness for a good apple fritter. Pillow’s definitely fits the bill.
  • Cake Donut – Cake-y, moist, and held together only enough to be able to make the trip to your mouth. Which is just as it should be.

Beagle Bagel

BakeryBreakfast-BeagleBagelWe love the variety at Beagle Bagel. From bagels to pastries and cookies to cakes, the bakery selections will leave you dizzy.

What we tried here:

  • Chocolate Chip Bagel with Cinnamon Swirl Cream Cheese – lightly toasted and smothered with cream cheese. That’s how we do our bagels.
  • Cinnamon Roll – sticking with the cinnamon theme, this roll has plenty of cinnamon, lots of icing, and is best enjoyed warm (let ‘em nuke it for you) and gooey. What else can one ask for from a cinnamon roll?

Primos Cafe

BakeryBreakfast-PrimosWe went with two non-traditional items here. One of them because it was something I’d never tried before, and the other because it’s one of our Eat Jackson favorites. Hey, if it’s available during breakfast hours, it’s breakfast, right?

What we tried here:

  • Fruit Drop Cookie – If you like fruity desserts—fruitcake, fruity breads, etc.—you’ll want to make a trip to Primos for this. It’s moist and full of fruity flavor.
  • Pecan Tart – We’ve waxed poetic about this offering before. This is how you start your day off right, people.
