Drago’s Seafood Restaurant is easily one of the best seafood restaurants in Jackson, MS. Their menu caters to all types, including gluten free diners.
Drago’s Seafood Restaurant, located adjacent to the Hilton Jackson, is the offspring of a New Orleans legacy dining establishment and led locally by Jackson local and longtime General Manager Skipper Westbrook. Going well beyond their nameplate as “Home of the Original Charbroiled Oysters, Drago’s features fresh lobster, authentic New Orleans-inspired cuisine, top notch service and epic desserts.
Located just off of I-55 North on the south side of East Countyline Road, Drago’s Seafood Restaurant shares a parking lot and management team with the Hilton Jackson. They say their secret ingredient is love. We believe it.
Drago’s Seafood Restaurant is great for special occasions, date nights and groups – they have several flexible private dining options. The restaurant has a nice buzz to it. Servers are loyal here, and the high quality of comfortable service proves it. It’s the sort of place where a regular would be recognized quickly – and appreciated. The live fire constantly rotates batches of fresh Charbroiled Oysters and sets a cozy tone that their founders, Drago and Klara Cvitanovich set in motion in 1969 with their mission “to offer delicious seafood and a good time to guests for a reasonable price.”
We love the variety on the menu with plenty of options for any taste – including the non-seafood lover. They easily accommodated a gluten-sensitive diner in our party (view the gluten-free menu here). If you’re an oyster lover of any degree, the Charbroiled Oysters really are special. Order a half dozen for $11.95. We also loved the Fleur De Lis appetizer with fried jumbo popcorn shrimp (our description for the size), peanuts and a sweet heat pepper aioli. As Emeril would say, BAM!
When it came to entrees, we couldn’t resist trying the lobster. We really can’t think of another place locally that we’d trust to do it right. And Drago’s does it right.
We are truly head over heels for the Herradura Shrimp ($22.95) with sundried tomatoes, pine nuts and just about the most perfect seasoning ever. The tequila in this dish may be the twang that makes this dish so extraordinary. Plus, the grilled portabella soaks up all that goodness and makes this a meaty, heart-warming dish that makes a trip to Drago’s a must do.
If you’re a cheesecake lover of any variety (including gluten free), we can’t let you overlook the very special Drago’s Cheesecake. The presentation is as epic as the flavor, and it’s a gigantic portion that’s still hard to share once you take a bite. Gluten sensitive? They’ll serve you a scoop of the cheesecake sans crust crumble with extra sauce.
