If you’re like every other person who has visited the Fondren area over the last year, you want to know what’s going on at Barrelhouse, the new restaurant going in on North State Street – across the street from Walker’s Drive-In.
I was able to catch up with General Manager Andrew Kehoe and get the story. You’re in for a treat!
Barrelhouse: a Southern Gastropub
Barrelhouse is a beautiful remodel of an old antique store, but there is nothing antique about its sleek design. The wide open modern space is anchored by a huge bar. Kehoe says that they will have twelve beers on tap as well as a full wine list.
They’re also spending a lot of energy on their spirits menu as well – planning to feature dozens of bourbons – which is music to the ears of many.
As for the menu, I was able to get a sneak peek. It’s not yet finalized and tweaks are common right up to opening. However, I can confidently share that Chef Stephen Kreuger has crafted an exciting concept that I would call Southern Gastropub. The items I saw on the draft menu were affordably priced as well as fun and intriguing. The ingredients or preparations are familiar, but his spin on them is truly unique. I can’t wait.
Jackson’s Newest Restaurant Will Open Soon
Needless to say, we here at Eat Jackson are incredibly excited about the Barrelhouse opening, which is scheduled for the first week of February.
Initially, Barrelhouse will be open at 4:00 p.m. nightly. Eventually, they plan to open for lunch as well.
Kehoe noted that that the Barrelhouse is currently hiring for all positions. If you want to be a part of Jackson’s newest culinary destination, stop by any day between 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. or email your resume to firstname.lastname@example.org.
