Review: Eslava’s Grille

I found myself on Lakeland Drive around lunch time last week. I noticed a spot that I’ve driven past several times in the past, Eslava’s Grille, and thought to myself, “What better time than now to venture in and try it?” As I walked in, the waitress closest to the door told me to choose any table. The atmosphere was quaint, and the staff was buzzing around bringing out dishes that made the place smell tantalizing.

Eslava-Bread&SaladI grabbed a water and quickly perused the menu. Lots of things looked appealing, but ordering the daily special has become my go-to tricks for discovering the best of the best dishes around town. The daily special at Eslava’s that day was Flounder with Lemon Caper Sauce, and the waitress told me it was one of her favorites.

The side salad, which was included with my entree, came out first. I ate every single bite of this petite green salad tossed in the Eslava’s house dressing. The dressing was pure perfection on lettuce. I even used the warm bread to sop up the last few drops while my confidence in my lunch choice grew as I watched the dining room fill up with fellow diners.

Eslava-FlounderSoon, a beautiful plate was served with a nice sized fillet of flounder dripping with Lemon Caper Sauce hugged tightly by a side of new potatoes and fresh green beans. I’m happy to report that my lunch tasted even better than it looked – if that’s possible. The lemon caper sauce heightened the experience of the tender, mild flounder. The potatoes and veggies provided both a textural and flavor compliment to this healthy lunch.

Food: Three words: Fresh, Flavorful, Colorful.

Atmosphere: The atmosphere at Eslava’s is quaint and inviting. The owner periodically came out to speak to his regulars, who he obviously knew on a first-name basis.

Service: The waitress was quick to make valuable menu suggestions, and she kept my glass full.

Delicious food! I loved the salad and the fish was very tasty. The two sides I had were potatoes and zucchini/squash. The potatoes were crisp and the zucchini and squash were fantastic. I will return!

Thank you for this introduction to Eslava’s! The lemon caper flounder sounds top-notch. Read on a comment that someone said they have fried green tomatoes topped with crab. I have been looking for a new place to try. Think I found it!

Thanks for the review. My wife and I frequently dine out with friends, so this needs to go on our short list of places to try. Does anyone know if a menu is online anywhere? Thanks.

Eslava’s is Jackson’s best kept secret. Everyone who eats there raves about the food.

I LOVE Eslava’s. My family ALWAYS goes here for big family events….birthday parties, anniversaries, etc. Their seafood pasta with crawfish is so delicious! It’s just a great family-owned local restaurant that everyone can enjoy. If you get to try ANY of their salad dressings, you will never be able to eat another salad anywhere else and not think, “I wish this had Eslava’s homemade dressing on it.” It is devine.

We love Eslava’s! Service there is superb, and the food is very good. We especially love the fried green tomatoes with crabmeat. We eat there often, and it’s great that we can bring our own wine/

Now this place sounds right up my alley so I had to look up the menu. EVERYTHING sounds good, but how will I ever decide??? And dessert??? Tres Leches, Classic Flan, or Croissant Bread Pudding?? Are you kidding me?? One of each, please!!!
