I found myself on Lakeland Drive around lunch time last week. I noticed a spot that I’ve driven past several times in the past, Eslava’s Grille, and thought to myself, “What better time than now to venture in and try it?” As I walked in, the waitress closest to the door told me to choose any table. The atmosphere was quaint, and the staff was buzzing around bringing out dishes that made the place smell tantalizing.
I grabbed a water and quickly perused the menu. Lots of things looked appealing, but ordering the daily special has become my go-to tricks for discovering the best of the best dishes around town. The daily special at Eslava’s that day was Flounder with Lemon Caper Sauce, and the waitress told me it was one of her favorites.
The side salad, which was included with my entree, came out first. I ate every single bite of this petite green salad tossed in the Eslava’s house dressing. The dressing was pure perfection on lettuce. I even used the warm bread to sop up the last few drops while my confidence in my lunch choice grew as I watched the dining room fill up with fellow diners.
Soon, a beautiful plate was served with a nice sized fillet of flounder dripping with Lemon Caper Sauce hugged tightly by a side of new potatoes and fresh green beans. I’m happy to report that my lunch tasted even better than it looked – if that’s possible. The lemon caper sauce heightened the experience of the tender, mild flounder. The potatoes and veggies provided both a textural and flavor compliment to this healthy lunch.
Food: Three words: Fresh, Flavorful, Colorful.
Atmosphere: The atmosphere at Eslava’s is quaint and inviting. The owner periodically came out to speak to his regulars, who he obviously knew on a first-name basis.
Service: The waitress was quick to make valuable menu suggestions, and she kept my glass full.
