Daydrinker Meets M!so’s Dr. Funk & Blue Hawaii

Daydrinker here. I did a little daydrinking recently at M!so. Okay, so it was technically dusk-drinking, but who cares where the sun is sitting in the sky once the drinks start flowing?

I had high hopes, because any place that has an exclamation point in its name should have a little kick to its libations, right? I wasn’t disappointed.

Dr. Funk

Dr. Funk

I solicited some recommendations from a friend of mine, Leslie (who also happens to be a server there) about what to try. Since she recommended more than one drink, I did what any good drankin’ writer should do and tried more than one drink. On a mostly empty stomach.

I know, I know: Rookie move, Daydrinker! Rookie move!

On Leslie’ s recommendation, I tried the Dr. Funk, and also the Blue Hawaiian. Here’s the breakdown:

The Dr. Funk

The Specs: Lime juice, grenadine, club soda, Pernod, light rum

The Skinny: This one was pretty tart. And pink. And strong. That last adjective seems to be a running theme with the drinks I tried there: None of them, including a friend’s martini I tried after finishing my two choices, skimped on the alcohol. The lime flavor was very prevalent, and there was a hint of sweetness. If you’re looking for something with some sourness but that’s not overwhelmingly bitter, this may just be the drink for you.

The Blue Hawaii

The Blue Hawaii

The Blue Hawaii

The Specs: Pineapple juice, lime juice, house-made simple syrup, blue curaçao, white overproof rum, vodka

The Skinny: Luckily, I had the presence of mind to order some spring rolls between the two drinks, and they were quite good. Unfortunately, it was a case of too little, too late. Did I mention that these drinks were strong? Because they were. The Blue Hawaii was very much what it sounds like: fruity, sweet, delicious, and, well…blue. And strong. (I feel like maybe I’ve mentioned that M!so’s drinks have plenty of alcohol in them. Did I? Because they do.) I tend to enjoy the sweet drinks, as they were my first love, so this one was a bit more up my alley than the Dr. Funk. It was garnished with a generous wedge of pineapple, which I made sure did not go to waste.

All in all, M!so is a great place to grab an after-work cocktail. The staff was very friendly, and M!so isn’t short on atmosphere. I sat inside on this visit, but there’s outside seating that can be quite pleasant once the sun has dipped below the horizon. You know, for all you night-drinkers out there.

Have you tried any of the drinks at M!so? Which one is your favorite?

Most places these days seem to skimp a bit on the amount of alcohol they put in their drinks ( all bells and no whistles!)….So Sad. But it’s nice to hear about new establishments that are making notable ALCOHOLIC drinks. Ok…time to clock out and head to Miso!

I haven’t tried M!so yet, but it’s on the list (along with The Apothecary). Looks like I might need to go in the evening to try these drinks!
