Chef Chris Haley at Ridgeland’s The Cotton Kitchen agrees. Every day at lunch, this chef’s Mississippi restaurant, with its signature down-home style, is serving up their own version of the Blue Plate with pride. With a “15 Minutes Or it’s Free Guarantee,” we figured it was no doubt worth a try.
At The Cotton Kitchen, your meal will hearken back to days gone by. Think Grandma’s cooking on a spirit-filled Sunday. For only $8.95, you’ll sink your teeth in to a choice of entrée, including the always available fried or blackened catfish, or fried chicken. Other days, you’ll find a rotating cast of daily Southern specials– Mom’s Lasagna, Chicken Spaghetti, or Chopped Steak, all with that home cooking flair we Mississippians tend to hold dear.
You also get to choose between two sides, such as homegrown green beans, fresh cut potato chips and comeback sauce, smashed potatoes, or smoked gouda mac ‘n’ cheese. Your meal will also be served with bread. Be sure and try the “hoe cake,” a traditional cornbread pancake that both kids and adults are sure to love.
Trust me, a visit to The Cotton Kitchen for a little Blue Plate comfort mid-day will leave you with anything but the blues (although, of course, you just might hear some blues blaring through the restaurant).
