St. Patrick’s Day is just around the corner and Jackson has its share of festivities for this GREEN day, including the annual Mal’s St. Paddy’s Parade. To make your St. Paddy’s Day celebration even more exciting, Broad Street Bakery is offering one of their most loved pastries, the King Cake, with a good ol’ Irish twist—Guinness and Chocolate!
King Cake, you say? Isn’t that a Mardi Gras thing? Well… Jen Adelsheimer, Pastry Chef at Broad Street, told us that they receive so many requests for different flavors during the traditional King Cake season that they decided to try out some new flavors throughout the year. That way, you can get your King Cake fix during the traditional season – and all year long!
This one-of-a-kind Guinness Chocolate King Cake is as good as any variation of King Cake I’ve had. The made-from-scratch cake is the traditional Broad Street King Cake dough—a delicious, buttery, flaky brioche. What makes this one special is the Guinness & Chocolate Cream Cheese filling. The dark, smoky notes of the Guinness accentuate the chocolate and help develop a rich, nutty flavor. The King Cake is then topped with a green Guinness sugar icing and chocolate ganache, instead of the traditional sugar icing and sprinkles. When you take a bite of this cake, you know instantly that it’s all about the chocolate. Worried about the Guinness? Don’t be! Even if you’re not much of a beer drinker, if you like chocolate, you’ll enjoy this cake.
You won’t want to miss the opportunity to try this Irish-themed King Cake! It would be a delicious tailgating snack while you’re at the St. Paddy’s Parade next weekend. However, Broad Street is only making them for 3 days, March 14, 15 and 16. I’m sure that Jen and her Pastry Team will make a few extras, but I wouldn’t take a chance. They will go fast! So go ahead and pre-order. Orders must be in by Tuesday, March 12 at 8 PM. You can find an order form online here, or you can call the bakery at 601.362.2900.
I know you’re still wondering, will there be a traditional baby in the cake? Let me tell you, Broad Street has thought of everything! For St. Patrick’s Day, the cakes will have a gold coin to place in the cake. And you know the tradition: whoever finds the baby, buys the next King Cake. Since these will only be offered for a limited time, how about the one who finds the gold coin buys the next Holiday King Cake at Broad Street?
‘Cause Easter is just around the corner, and we have it on good authority that the Easter flavor will be Lemon/Raspberry…
What’s your favorite King Cake flavor? Or do you have a good idea for one? Let us know below!

I had to be a good Catholic and give up something for Lent. Why did I have to pick chocolate?? Guess I’ll just have to hope it returns next year.
Missing Jackson St. Paddy’s day is like missing family Christmas…. I guess a swing into Broadstreet for one of these will have to suffice!
