CRAB’S Seafood Shack

The Gulf Coast, the Bering Sea and the Atlantic Coast all in Ridgeland, Mississippi—CRAB’S Seafood Shack has got the seafood mystery cracked.

Known affectionately as the Crab Shack (insert My Name Is Earl joke here), this crab destination has been satisfying customers for years.

CRAB’S has a nice sized dining room and a full service bar where you can get the beer or cocktail of your choice.

Shack-grilled Oysters.

CRAB’S has shack-grilled oysters!  Some other places don’t.  These are fresh oysters on the half-shell, grilled in the half-shell, with butter, garlic and cheese.  They are really good.  Even if you don’t like oysters give these a try.  For one they are cooked, and have very little in common with their raw, former-self, and two they are in butter, garlic and cheese.  What’s not to like?  They come with a side of cocktail sauce and lemons.  Squeeze some lemon, but save the cocktail sauce for the shrimp or the saltine crackers.  The Oysters do not need it.

The Crab Claws.

CRAB’S is ahead of the game on the crab claws too.  While lots of places have fried crab claws, a review of prior pictures would show most are sourced from the same place.  CRAB’S are not.  The breading appears to be hand-breaded and seasoned.  These claws are great.  I thought it was fun to teach my kids how to eat a fried crab claw.  Instructing them to bite down, but not too hard as there is a membrane between the layers of crab meat.  Well, now they know how to eat them and won’t stop because they are that good.  I need to order two orders next time.

The CRAB.

The Crab selection is great.  Kings, Snows, Dungeness and several others you have not heard of. I have not tried them all, but of the ones that I have, I have not been disappointed.  They come on a big platter and with a bucket for the shells. They are served with boiled corn, potatoes, drawn butter, lemons and the whole crabby experience is complete. Sausage and a host of other sides are available too.

The Service.

Service has been top notch.  Despite always seeming busy, we have been seated promptly.  Drinks are out fast and the apps and dinner are right on their heels, but you are not rushed.  There is a good selection of other fare if seafood is not your thing.  Burgers, chicken items and salads are available.  It’s kid-friendly too. They have daily Blue Plate Lunches, Happy Hour Specials, and shrimp and crab specials during the week.

FOOD: It’s fresh, it’s good. Try the Dungeness crab and the Shack-grilled oysters.

SERVICE: Service was excellent.

ATMOSPHERE: Casual, fun and smells of the beach.

I am so new to Jackson that I don’t have a permanent address yet! But I have already found a home at Crab’s Seafood Shack. Their po’boy sandwiches are terrfic – lots of shrimp or crawfish and crispy bread from New Orleans. The crab bisque is very smooth with a generous amount of crab. We ordered the seafood boil one night and were not disappointed. Very generous portions of shrimp and crab cooked just right – not mushy at all. A huge serving of crab legs passed by our table leaving me knowing exactly waht I will order next time!

I love Crabs. I think it has one of the best shrimp and grits in the area. You have to try their grouper melt, so good
