Kent’s Cajun Kitchen is brand new to Madison. This authentic Cajun restaurant, run by the husband and wife duo of Aaron and Felicia Kent, is located in the little shopping center just behind Local 463 on Bozeman Road. Chef Felicia, a New Orleans native, saw a need for good ol’ Cajun food in the area so Kent’s Cajun Kitchen was born.
My first (and only, so far) visit to Kent’s Cajun Kitchen was about a week after they opened. I knew they’d still be working out kinks, but I was so excited to try this place out that I couldn’t wait any longer! I didn’t have a whole lot of time though, and I was flying solo that day, so I decided to run in and place a take-out order.
I knew I wanted something New Orleansy, so it was between the Seafood Gumbo, a Po-Boy, or the Red Beans, Rice & Beef Smoke Sausage. The girl at the counter, recommended the Red Beans, Rice & Beef Smoke Sausage was, so I followed her directive!
After a quick 10-minutes, my order was ready. In my car, I opened up the take out containers, and was introduced to one of the most comforting, welcoming smells ever. The aromatic steam rising from the Red Beans with Beef Smoke Sausage made all my cares melt away. I mixed in a little bit of rice, which was packaged in a separate container, and took a bite.
Oh. MAN…
The flavors of The Big Easy were dancing on my tongue. The spiciness was not overwhelming, and the red beans and sausage were just out of this world. I loved every single bite of this dish and was heartbroken when I got to the end! I would order the Red Beans, Rice & Beef Smoke Sausage again in a millisecond! If everything else on the KCK menu even compares to this, then they are destined for success.
FOOD: What I had was phenomenal. I look forward to going back and trying more menu items soon. Did I mention they have an authentic New Orleans shaved ice machine in there too? That’s just one more reason I can’t wait to get back in there!
One more thing to note: They have an Eat Healthy Mississippi section on their menu with several tasty-sounding options. The Cajun Sauteed Basil Chicken Breast with Spinach sounds particularly outstanding!
SERVICE: Counter service was courteous and friendly. She was very honest about being new to the register and apologized for the amount of time it took her to put in my order. When my order was ready, she called me by name to give it to me. And I’d just met her 10 minutes prior! That impressed me!
ATMOSPHERE: It was so crowded in there the day I went that I didn’t notice a whole lot about the atmosphere. It wasn’t anything super exciting as far as décor. But the buzz about this brand new joint did make for some excitement!
