Even though we’re almost halfway through July, National Ice Cream Month is just getting started! (Aren’t you glad we get 31 days to celebrate this incredible dessert instead of just one? I know I definitely am!)

This week, Eat Jackson’s quest to honor the tastiest ice cream dishes around town led us to Anjou, the new French restaurant located at The Township in Ridgeland.

Profiteroles … uh, what?

You may remember our spotlight on Anjou earlier this summer, where we mentioned that the French language dominates the restaurant menu. My knowledge of French doesn’t go much farther than “oui” or “baguette,” but underneath the menu’s bold-faced words of LES DESSERTS (easy enough!) was something any Southerner would instantly recognize: ice cream!

national food holidayAnjou’s “Profiteroles au Chocolat” can roughly be translated into Mississippian as “cream puffs, ice cream, and a whole ton of chocolate.” Whether you boast a cultured palate or prefer more basic Southern staples, this mouth-watering dish will certainly please your taste buds!

The French are widely known for their incredible baking talents, and Anjou proudly creates their fluffy pastries fresh each day. The puffs are then filled with a classic French vanilla ice cream and placed upon a flooding pool of decadent chocolate sauce. Forget your pool membership to cool off – you can just swim in this delectable ocean of dessert!

Though the chocolate is warm and rich, the combination of chilly ice cream and flaky pastry makes for a perfectly balanced French treat to temporarily escape that pesky Mississippi heat! You don’t need a plane ticket to Paris for vacation… Just a short drive to Anjou to celebrate and enjoy summer (and ice cream)!
