Caramel Lovers, This One’s For You!

Today is National Caramel Day. You know what that means! Time to talk about one of our favorite places in Jackson to find something caramely…

But first, let’s talk about why caramel is so awesomely delicious. The gooey, sweet, rich qualities of caramel make us fall in love with this sweet more and more every time we indulge! It’s almost impossible not to love caramel, after finding out what all goes into making this confectionary delight. Milk, sugar (or brown sugar), butter, and vanilla… Those are just the basic ingredients that almost everybody loves, right?! And THAT, my friends, is why so many folks love caramel.

Let’s move on to one of the most famous caramel-containing dishes in the Jackson metro area. This caramel delight is something that many Jacksonians grew up eating, and it is just as popular now as it ever was! What is this caramel dish we’re talking about?

A slice of Primos Caramel Cake

Ladies and gentlemen, it is no other than the Caramel Cake from Primos. Oh yes. This Caramel Cake has been the epicenter of more family holiday dessert traditions than any other cake we can think of. This caramel cake has such the reputation that we even know of instances where it’s been used as wedding cake. One bite of this light, soft, yellow cake, thickly iced with house-made golden caramel between each delicate layer, is like taking a bite of heaven.

Primos knows they have a good thing going with this caramel icing, so they actually sell just the icing by the tub! We can think of so many uses for this tub of yum. You could ice not only cakes, but cookies or brownies with it. You could slice up apples and use it as a dip. You could heat it up and drizzle it on a pancake or waffle alongside some syrup… The possibilities are endless!
