What’s the Best at Miller’s Grill?

Miller's Grill Downtown

Miller's Grill Downtown

If you’ve never been to Miller’s Grill, located in downtown Jackson on Capitol Street, just a block west of the Governor’s Mansion, then may I recommend you go…immediately?

Is the Experience the Best Part?

The experience alone is worth the trip. I’ve been twice in the past several months, once before the lunch crowd got too crazy and once after the lunch crowd died down. I’ve been told tales of how hectic it can get in there right around noon when all the folks who work downtown take their lunch breaks, so I believe that it is incumbent upon Eat Jackson to make an effort to spread out the “lunch rush.”

This trip, I walked into Miller’s Grill around 1:00 p.m. to fairly crowded restaurant. If it’s still this busy at 1 o’clock, just imagine the lunch rush at noon! I waited in line behind a few other guys to place my order at the counter. When it was my turn, I ordered the Miller’s Grill cheeseburger.

What came next is my favorite part. The kitchen at Miller’s Grill is exposed – meaning there is nothing dividing you and the big, hot griddle but a mere piece of plexiglass. If you order any type of sandwich, you get to watch it come together, from start to finish!

The guy working the griddle is a master.  He’s butterin’ bread, choppin’ up steak for the Philly Cheese orders, formin’ hamburger patties and grillin’ them to perfection, all while making small talk with the customers. You can tell he’s been at this gig a while, and he seems to love it!

A lovely Cheeseburger, just for me!

After your sandwich elements are grilled, you move on down the line to what I like to call “The Fixins Guy.” He’s the one that puts all the condiments, veggies, etc. on your sandwich right there while he’s talking to you. This man, too, is very talented. I’ve got to give him credit—when you say you only want a little bit of mayonnaise on your burger, he knows juuuuust the right amount to squirt on there. I consider that a rare and valuable talent.

Or Is the Food the Best Part?

I took my first bite and fell in love with my Miller’s Grill Cheeseburger. I’m a sucker for a buttered bun, so after I saw Griddle Man butter the bun and let it toast for a minute or so, I knew this burger had the potential to really be spectacular.

The meat was good and juicy, the cheese was all gooey and melted, and the burger was dressed to my specifications… I cannot say a single bad thing about this burger! I loved every bite, and, as far as take out goes, I loved that it wasn’t so thick that I’d have trouble eating it. There are a lot of killer burgers out there that are so thick, it’s hard to get them in my mouth. (Not that I’m complaining about a thick burger… Some of the hard to eat ones are the best ones!) BUT, the fact that this one was easy to eat in a take-out wrapper made it that much more enjoyable.

I give the Miller’s Grill Cheeseburger two thumbs up from Eat Jackson!

What else does Miller’s Grill serve?

In addition to Burgers and other hot sandwiches, The Miller’s Grill Menu also has hot plate lunches, Chicken Baskets, and Salads. (Now under new ownership, they do not have pizza anymore… sadly.) Miller’s Grill is open Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. (they now serve breakfast!) until 2 p.m.  If you go between 1:00 and 2:00 p.m., show your EatJXN card for 10% off your ticket!
