It’s rare that I rush home and absolutely HAVE TO write about something that happened at a place we’ve been.
When it does happen, usually its because the service was really, really bad or in a few rare cases something was absolutely off the charts so much so that I couldn’t stop talking about it, even after I arrived at home.
Such is the case with this creation from my new friend Brian McGhee that is sure to be the most popular item yet in Eat Jackson’s Worth the Drive section. Yes, unfortunately this wasn’t in Jackson, but it’s the perfect spot to stop on your way to Orange Beach or Gulf Shores, Alabama. This luscious creation can only be found at The Original Oyster House overlooking Mobile Bay between downtown Mobile and Spanish Fort on Highway 90.
For the Love of Key Lime Pie
I’d visited The Oyster House in the past, and to be honest, I was back tonight because of their Key Lime Pie. It’s always been a favorite.
But tonight they convinced me to try their special dessert drink MADE from Key Lime Pie. Well, they sort of forced me. You see, we turned down the offer several times over and insisted on a slice of the original housemade dreamy creamy key lime pie… to go.
But as we were about to leave, the couple next to us got this concoction, and the bartender who delivered it proceeded to offer sample cups of the “leftovers” from their drink to everyone nearby. And the rest is history. Epic history.
Introducing… Key Lime Delight
The drink is a new invention, and it’s not even on the menu officially yet – but it will be. This treat has an entire slice of the pie blended into this milkshake-esque cocktail topped with whipped cream and dusted with a little… you guessed it – Key Lime Pie crust. And a lime.
I’ve tried dozens of concoctions and creations by well intentioned chefs and bartenders in the past, and many have been good. But this my friends, was truly a remarkable creation. The temporary name on this treat is Key Lime Delight.
Go try it. You’ll thank me. And then you’ll thank Brian because it was his creation.
Man vs. Food
On another note, the food at The Oyster House is really good. So good, in fact, that Adam Richmond (who recently visited Burgers & Blues, Chimneyville Smokehouse and Hal & Mal’s in Jackson for his show, Man vs. Food on The Travel Channel) featured The Original Oyster House during his April 21, 2011 visit to Mobile, Alabama.
