“A Taste of Mississippi” in the Big Apple

Walker’s Drive-In Chef & Owner Derek Emerson has been selected to visit New York City for a dinner at the acclaimed City Grit tomorrow night, March 7th. The event is called, appropriately, “Taste of Mississippi.”

City Grit imageChef Emerson, along with Executive Chef Chris Poplin of the Imperial Palace in Biloxi, will be representing Mississippi, serving up fresh dishes featuring Mississippi seafood to a throng of New Yorkers. Derek is a three time semi-finalist for the “Best Chef South” award from the James Beard Foundation. His restaurants Walker’s Drive-In (Jackson) and Local 463 (Madison) are home-grown favorites for Mississippians across the state.

“It’s an honor to represent the state I call home,” Emerson said, adding proudly: “The state that provides the world’s best seafood, from the Gulf of Mexico!” The menu that he and Chef Poplin will be sharing with their lucky diners will feature Oysters, Shrimp, Redfish, Crab, and will end on a sweet Southern note of Peach Cobbler with an Orange Biscuit Crust and Chantilly Crème.

Lazy-Magnolia_logoThe night will also feature Lazy Magnolia‘s Southern Pecan Nut Brown ale. All in all, this sensational Southern team will be sure to please the palates of the crowd at City Grit. As a venue, City Grit features different menu themes along with different Guest Chefs nightly. Congratulations to Chef Emerson, Poplin, and the entire crew from Mississippi Seafood for putting together “Taste of Mississippi,” a night that will represent Mississippi’s finest, served right in the heart of the Big Apple.

    I looked on the City Grit webpage, and the event is sold out. Was going to recommend my NYC friends attend.
